I’m torn on this, on one hand there doesn’t seem to be any agreed, testable explanation for it working. But on the the other hand there are many many reported cases of it working.
I’ve never experienced it myself, so I can’t claim first-hand knowledge.
We got asked about chakras the other day and my answer is quite similar to that in that I’m undecided. There’s nothing to say it should work but so many people swear by it you can’t ignore it. I think it’s definitely an area to be looked into. So again I’m going to say I shall keep an open mind.
The NHS actually recommends acupuncture for two different types of headaches. It’s been suggested that during acupuncture, you stimulate the nerves in your skin causing them to release pain-relieving chemicals which might then help relieve the particular pain you have, for example in your back. I think it does work based upon stories I’ve been told but scientifically, much more research would need to be done.
So at the moment there is no explanation of how it might actually help a human, however many people swear by it! There are so many things that we don’t understand, or don’t know enough about, and perhaps this is one of then. Even though it hasn’t been proven to work, the fact that it helps people means that it’s a great thing! Just because we don’t think something works, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it. If it does work, then great, if it doesn’t work, the placebo effect is strong enough to help people 🙂
I do believe in acupuncture for certain things. I can actually do medical acupuncture and have seen it work on things like headache, just like Ella mentioned.
It doesn’t work on everybody, but when it does, it’s fantastic!
