I have to obviously say human biology and anatomy & physiology as this links into what I do in the lab. I look at human tissue from tongues, to jaws, voice box and smaller biopsies like cysts and skin. We look at these and then produce a report which goes back to a consultant in charge of the patient, what happens then is loads of healthcare professionals then discuss the patient and decide which treatment would be best for them. So as you can see human biology and anatomy & physiology feature quite heavily in what I do.

Apart from work I love space and would love to find out more about astronomy. I think most people are fascinated by the stars, planets and the cosmos.

My research looks at brains and the word for brain science is neuroscience! I love neuroscience and definitely think it’s the most interesting! As I’m a scuba diver I also like to learn about marine biology and the animals that live in the ocean.

I love physics. It’s such a broad area of research, but it can all be broken down to a few equations.
My original training was in physics, but my job does involve a lot of the life sciences too, so I’m really coming to appreciate those more.

There’s no one “best” science, as we find out more in each field I think we are finding out more and more that there is overlap between them. One of the latest things that blew my mind was hearing about how plants use quantum physics when they photosynthesise. No one would have guessed that a decade ago. https://phys.org/news/2014-01-quantum-mechanics-efficiency-photosynthesis.html

Ooh it has to be geology. It’s a super exciting area of science, as it can include studying how volcanoes erupt through to preventing landslides in developing nations or using satellites to map the geology of another planet! I love many branches of science, but geology involved engineering, chemistry, physics, biology (yep! even biology!), zoology, geography, meteorology, and space science to name but a few.
