Thinking is one of the most complicated things we do. Plus, what we actually define as ‘thinking’ as another good point. Do you think (haha!) when we see something we’re scared of that we decide to run away? Or do you think we just run without thinking?! We’re able to think due to the billions of connections between different cells in our brain; working together, they connect the front bits of our brain to the back of the brain and when all of the important structures are connected and talking to each other we can generate thoughts. However, some things we don’t really need to think about, like my example before, we just do it! There’s a bit of your brain called the hippocampus that is very important for us to learn and remember things. This part of the brain can be damaged when you’re old in a disease called Alzheimer’s disease. People with Alzheimer’s disease sometimes have a hard time thinking properly and making sense of their thoughts.
